Bambusa textilis gracilis
Gracilis, also know as Slender Weavers Bamboo is well suited to suburban backyards. It’s culms are tall, narrow and straight, with graceful slender leaves with ever changing green/blue stems make this bamboo a real stunner.
It is ideal as a large screening plant for privacy against a double story next door or planted in a small courtyard as a great specimen. A beautiful tidy upright bamboo, great for privacy screens or as feature plantings.
The smooth clean culms, lush green foliage and general hardiness has earned this bamboo a spot as one the most popular bamboo species in Australia.

How to plant
Do not plant Slender Weavers any closer than about 1.2m apart. Any closer together than 1.2m and they compete with each other and grow to be stunted with short branches and sparse foliage.
Planting 1.3m – 1.4m means the plant will grow faster and put up thicker, taller culms with longer branches and more leaves much sooner.
Maintenance
Any controlled / slow-release fertiliser with TRACE ELEMENTS used when first planting will give good results for the plants to be able to establish. Blood and bone, well-rotted compost and manure are good organic fertilisers and should be applied annually to create healthy and resilient plants.
Suitable for
This variety is perfect for screening/privacy. Gracilis will comfortably screen out a standard double storey house next door. Or, should you want a smaller height, Gracilis can be pruned to the desired height. It can also be can grown in narrow garden beds (from 500mm), and it is ideal for a feature planting or stunning centre piece in a small courtyard.
How fast will it grow
This clumping bamboo is a fast grower and is adaptable to many soil conditions and climates. As long as the plant has optimum growing conditions and is well maintained, it should double in height and density each year (to maturity height). Grows up to 8m tall.
